Overview[edit]

The 2026 Presidential/Ruler Election was a major turning point in the history of the Greater Teutonnic Realm, marking the first occasion on which realmsmembers were given the opportunity to directly elect their head of state and, ultimately, the future Ruler. The election followed a period of considerable political instability and internal disputes involving several prominent figures within the Realm's leadership. What initially began as a dispute surrounding the Office of the Realmspresident and the security of the Realm eventually developed into a broader political crisis and a fundamental change in the Realm's leadership.

Background[edit]

The Removal of Alberecht[edit]

The events leading to the 2026 election began with the removal of Alberecht, Chief of the Realmspresident's Private Office. He had been accused of undermining the efforts of Gottschaelk, Adjutant to the Realmspresident, the Universal Security Unit, and the wider Realms Security Apparatus. The disagreement was among the growing tensions within Realmsleadership, particularly concerning the role of the security institutions, the administration of the sitting Realmspresident DerSpiess, and the (perceived) lack of progress in other areas of the Realm.

Following his removal, Alberecht made an address to several close associates and influential figures, including VonDrachenholm and KlausVonRhein. During his private address to these individuals, Alberecht criticized what he saw as widespread complacency within the Realm's institutions and leadership. He argued that security had increasingly taken priority over development and progress, calling on his associates to speak out against what he considered a lack of action and direction.

In his address, Alberecht stated:

"My comrades, I wish to speak to you today on an issue that has been plaguing our Realm, from every institution to division like an insidious cancer, complacency. This not only exists in our development but in our leadership, stagnation & progress is treated as secondary issues to so-called matters of security. There has never been a time where it is more necessary to stand for this Realm, to strike cowardice. Speak out, show what this Realm means to you, they may bombard you with threats of retribution and retaliation, but you must remain stalwart. Do you stand with your Realm and Ruler, or what you are told is for the best. Triumph Teutonnia."

Following this address, several individuals associated with Alberecht began publicly criticizing the sitting Realmspresident DerSpiess and his administration. Their criticism focused on what they viewed as a lack of progress and the way the administration handled the Realm's internal affairs. These statements increasingly attracted the attention of the RSA, particularly as some of the criticism became more confrontational.

Investigations and the Leutgardist Cadre Movement[edit]

In the following days, several prominent individuals were removed from their positions on allegations of inciting insurrection, among which were VonDrachenholm and Hauwahrt. Investigations were opened to establish their involvement and determine whether their activities were part of a wider effort to challenge the existing leadership.

At around the same time, organizers associated with the Leutgardist Cadre Movement (LCM) began gathering members in-game for public meetings and cadre activities. These gatherings became a concern for the Realms Security Apparatus, especially given the ongoing investigations and the criticism being directed towards the administration. Some of the statements and activities were viewed by the RSA as encouraging insurrection and organized opposition to the Realmsleadership. However, the extent of each individual's involvement remained subject to investigation.

The Chairman of the Unity League soon suspended the Leutgardist Cadre Movement. Its members and associated figures subsequently came under increased scrutiny from the Main Security Office (MSO) and the Universal Security Unit (USU), which monitored their activities as part of the wider security response.

Declaration of a State of Emergency[edit]

As tensions continued to rise, the Realmsleadership declared a state of emergency and the town of Lenburg was fully locked down. The situation was presented by Realmsleadership and the RSA as an attempted coup against the established leadership. Several prominent officials and members of the LCM became subjects of investigations into possible involvement in the alleged conspiracy.

The situation created considerable uncertainty throughout the Realm. The removal and investigation of senior figures, suspension of the Cadre Movement, and increased security measures marked an unusual period in Teutonnia's political history. At the same time, the crisis brought existing disagreements over the direction and future of the Realmsleadership's administration and the role of the security apparatus into the open.

The Elections[edit]

Return of Leutgard and the Announcement of Elections[edit]

As the situation gradually came under control, the Eternal Ruler Leutgard returned and addressed the Realm. In his announcement, he acknowledged the calls for a change in leadership and introduced an unprecedented electoral process through which realmsmembers would directly elect the next Realmspresident.

Leutgard explained that the decision followed discussions about the future of the Realm and the type of leadership needed to guide Teutonnia into a new generation. His announcement outlined several stages, beginning with an open nomination period, followed by a review of the nominees and the selection of eligible candidates.

The announcement read:

"Realmscomrades! The people have asked, and we have listened. For the first time, you will be given the opportunity to select the new Realmspresident. This follows much discussion about the future of the Realm and the skills and willpower required to lead us into a new generation.

To begin with, a nomination round will take place. Once all of the names have been vetted, a first round for viable candidates will take place. Once the viable candidates have been cleared and selected, the situation will be clarified further: no candidate with fewer than 100 nominations in the candidacy round will be eligible to stand for the election.

Finally, the successful candidates will be permitted to stand for the post of Realmspresident. The election will take place over 7 days, allowing everyone the opportunity to vote.

Though we have historically often had referenda to confirm the people's views on the general situation or on specific matters, this is the first occasion on which you are being asked to directly elect a leader. It will be the last for many years to come. Choose wisely, and do not nominate without strong justification for doing so. Nominations will close within 24 hours, if not sooner. Triumph Teutonnia!"

Initial Candidates and Nominations[edit]

Nominee Position or background at the time
Uhtric Former Secretary to the Ruler
Witterhelm Vice Realmschancellor and former Realmsmarshal
DerSpiess Sitting Realmspresident
VonDrachenholm Influential Rulerguard official and political figure
Pandenulf Former Deputy Ruler of the Realm and longstanding veteran
ZrastosJr Chief of Staff of the Unityguard
Bartholldi Rulersmarshal
CCrunck12 Former Grand Admiral
HuangHebe Realmsminister of Justice

The initial nominations included members of the sitting administration, senior military officials, former leaders, and figures from different parts of the Realm. However, being nominated did not automatically guarantee a place in the final election. All nominees still had to pass the vetting process and meet the minimum requirement of 100 nominations.

The nomination period therefore marked the beginning of a wider contest over the future direction of Teutonnia, with the final list of candidates yet to be decided.

Candidate Vetting and Election Campaign[edit]

Following the initial nomination period, the Central Election Commission began reviewing the candidates and their eligibility to participate in the election. Several nominees failed to reach the required threshold of 100 nominations, while others became subjects of investigations conducted by the Commission. The Commission, which consisted largely of senior security officials, uncovered various criminal acts during its investigations, resulting in several candidates being required to withdraw from the election.

Following the vetting process, DerSpiess, Witterhelm, and VonDrachenholm emerged as the most popular candidates. All three held influential positions within the Realm and attracted considerable support from different parts of the community.

However, Vice Realmschancellor Witterhelm eventually withdrew from the race. This left DerSpiess and VonDrachenholm as the leading candidates, both of whom began building alliances with other nominees and supporters to strengthen their positions.

The campaign increasingly developed into a contest between the two leading candidates and their respective supporters. DerSpiess represented the continuation of the existing administration and was generally associated with a more conservative approach to the Realm's leadership. VonDrachenholm, on the other hand, presented himself as a candidate for reform and change, attracting support from individuals who wanted a different direction for Teutonnia.

The election quickly became a major event throughout the community. Supporters on both sides produced large amounts of campaign material, including posters, artwork, written statements, and other forms of propaganda. Many prominent and influential members of the Realm publicly endorsed one of the candidates, making the campaign a subject of widespread discussion and participation.

The election also became a period of considerable cultural activity, with the campaign encouraging members to contribute creative works and take part in public discussions about the future of the Realm.

The Final Contest and Results[edit]

VonDrachenholm's Withdrawal and Pandenulf's Rise[edit]

Despite his strong position in the campaign, VonDrachenholm eventually decided to withdraw from the presidential race. He considered the responsibilities of the Realmspresident to be too great a personal burden and decided not to continue pursuing the position.

However, rather than leaving the campaign entirely, VonDrachenholm publicly endorsed Pandenulf, who had previously been part of his political team. Pandenulf subsequently re-entered the race in his place, taking over much of the support and political backing that had gathered around VonDrachenholm.

This changed the direction of the election. The final contest was now between the sitting Realmspresident DerSpiess and former Deputy Ruler Pandenulf, with both candidates representing different visions for the future of Teutonnia.

Election Results[edit]

The election officially lasted seven days, as established in Leutgard's original announcement. During this period, members of the Realm were given the opportunity to cast their votes for their preferred candidate.

At the conclusion of the voting period, on the 26th of October 2026, Pandenulf was declared the winner, receiving 573 votes against DerSpiess's 447 votes.

More than one thousand members of the Realm participated in the election, making it a significant undertaking for the Central Election Commission. Throughout the voting period, the Commission carried out quiet audits of the submitted votes to ensure the results were properly reviewed.

Pandenulf's victory marked the end of DerSpiess's presidency and the conclusion of the Realm's first group leader election. However, the events that followed would bring changes far beyond the appointment of a new Realmspresident.

The Changing of the Guard[edit]

The Announcement of a new Rulership[edit]

On the evening following the publication of the election results, Realmschancellor Kryhstoff called upon members of the Realm to gather at the Hall of Ceremonies for an official event known as the Changing of the Guard, which takes place during significant leadership changes. The gathering was intended to mark the transfer of leadership and announce new appointments within the Office of the Realmspresident.

The ceremony was attended by the Eternal Ruler Leutgard, whose return had made the election possible. During the event, the Realmschancellor made a surprising announcement: the Office of the Realmspresident would be abolished and replaced by the Office of the Ruler.

Rather than simply becoming the new Realmspresident, Pandenulf was appointed Ruler of the Realm, with the endorsement of Leutgard. He was also given the title of Great Successor, marking his designation as Leutgard's successor and the beginning of a new period in Teutonnia's leadership.

The outgoing Realmspresident DerSpiess was appointed Realmsprotector of Teutonnia, moving into a role focused on safeguarding the Realm and overseeing its wider community.

New appointments[edit]

Alongside Pandenulf's appointment as Ruler, several prominent figures were given positions within the now re-established Office of the Ruler. The principal appointments included:

Individual Appointment
Pandenulf Ruler of the Realm and Great Successor
VonDrachenholm Deputy Ruler
Toirdalbhach Adjutant to the Ruler
Hauwahrt Secretary to the Ruler
DerSpiess Realmsprotector of Teutonnia

The former members of the Office of the Realmspresident were reassigned to positions as Realmcouncillors, allowing them to retain a place within the Realm's leadership structure while the new Office of the Ruler was established.

Decorations and Honours[edit]

Part of the ceremony's wider recognition of individuals who had played important roles in the Realm's (recent) history, the Changing of the Guard also included the awarding of several important decorations in recognition of service to the Realm.

The Order of Teutonnia, one of the Realm's highest honours, was awarded to a number of individuals, among which were the new members of the Office of the Ruler. In addition, the Rulersorder, regarded as the highest decoration in the history of our Realms, was awarded to Whose_Greg, the Unitymarshal and former Realmschancellor.

Leutgard's Final Address[edit]

The ceremony concluded with an announcement from Leutgard, who addressed the community and called upon its members to unite behind the new Ruler. He confirmed Pandenulf's appointment and emphasized that the Supreme Command had sworn its allegiance to the new Ruler, with the wider community expected to follow.

Leutgard also confirmed DerSpiess's new position as Realmsprotector and called upon both the old and new leadership to work together in guiding Teutonnia through the changes ahead.

It was a rare sight to have the Eternal Ruler back, but for such an important event in the history of our Realms, it could not have taken place without him. Interpreters have concluded his address as potentially being a final one to the community, with a heavy emphasis on unity, loyalty to the new Ruler, and avoiding further internal divisions.

The announcement ended with the slogans:

PANDENULF PREVAILS

DEFEND DERSPIESS

LONG LIVE LEUTGARD!
